PCHR Weekly Report: 20 Palestinians injured by Israeli forces this week

According to the Palestinian Center for Human Rights, during the week of 23 - 28 April 2009, 20 Palestinian civilians, including 6 children, were wounded by Israeli gunfire in the West Bank. A number of these civilians were wounded by Israeli settlers during a joint attack with Israeli forces. Israeli forces have continued to impose a total siege and have isolated the Gaza Strip from the outside world.

The acting head of the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the United Nations, Fida’ Abdul-Hadi Nasser, sent letters to the UN Secretary-General, to the head of the Security Council and to the head of the UN General Assembly informing them that the illegal Israeli measures and the ongoing settlement construction and expansion, especially in Jerusalem, are increasing the suffering of the Palestinians.

The Palestinian Chamber of Commerce in Gaza reported on Wednesday that unemployment rates in the Gaza Strip reached 65%, and that poverty rates are now 80%, due to the ongoing Israeli-led siege and repeated assaults.

Two Palestinians killed in a tunnel accident

Palestinian medical sources in the Gaza Strip reported that two Palestinians were killed on Thursday as they were in a tunnel that collapsed on them in the Rafah area, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
